The facility in Wilmersdorf near Fehrberlinplatz is officially called Preussenpark. However, it is commonly known as Thai Park. Neighbors from Thailand opened an outdoor restaurant on the large meadow of the park. More accurately, several small outdoor restaurants for people from their homeland. Residents of the neighborhood, as well as people from all over the city, quickly discovered and embraced the offering.
Nowadays, food from all over Asia is available, and on weekends, it has become a regular culinary attraction for many Berliners, and even some tourists. Mobile drink vendors have also joined in, and at least one guitar hero plays for the crowd.
The food is delicious and diverse, just like the visitors. People who are unsure about the offering often ask, "Does it come with rice?" Most people collect a variety of tasty treats for one euro each and are quickly satisfied for 10 euros. Afterwards, they sit on the grass and watch the activities.
On weekdays, the park is primarily filled with Thais, Vietnamese, and Chinese people, and the offerings are more limited. For us, this is an example of what makes Berlin great. A few people took the initiative and unintentionally established a new event that has not been over-organized or regulated. Hopefully, it stays that way!
On our way to the Fehrberlinplatz subway station, we discovered one of the many flea markets that open every weekend. We briefly checked it out because we want to visit the mother of all flea markets.
It has been taking place every weekend since the 70s on Straße des 17. Juni between S-Bahn Tiergarten and Technical University. Some might say it's a typical tourist trap. That may be true, but considering our experiences in other cities in the country, the selection is still surprisingly diverse and not excessively expensive.
The evening brings a little surprise: at home, a young fox tries to cross Buschkrugalle. Before doing so, it lets us get surprisingly close and smiles at the camera. Hopefully, it made it to the park safely.
