I reach the museum after a long journey from Herndon by car and subway (Orange Line, one of six subway lines) in pouring rain. There is a flood and storm warning for the entire region. The museum is located on the Mall and is one of the Smithsonian Museums and, as in almost all of these museums, admission is free. Start is on the fourth floor. Numerous displays, films and exhibits provide a very good and up-to-date insight into the life of the Native Americans since settlement by Europeans. Various agreements (treaties) are explained and placed in historical context. It is repeatedly highlighted what the perspectives of the Native Americans were and those of the white settlers. The most diverse and frequent combat operations are mentioned but not depicted drastically. Overall, I have the impression that anyone who wants to find out more here can get a very good overall impression of the situation of the Native Americans. This is particularly decorated in a gallery with a wide variety of products that have Indian names (Indian Motorcycle, military helicopter Tomahawk, etc.). The food in the café is also partly based on Indian food. After a long day, I head home again in the late afternoon in even heavier rain and get pretty wet despite the umbrella. So I'm glad that my car is parked in the free parking lot (on weekends) at the West Falls Church metro station and has a heater.
