It all started with the long-awaited desire to see more of the world after studying and sail aboard a cruise ship on the high seas...
With my application to AIDA Cruises in September 2016 and the invitation to the applicant day in October 2016, the first foundations were laid for my upcoming adventure. After initial uncertainty and at the same time huge anticipation of an incredible career opportunity, with the support of my dear mom, I set off on the long journey to Rostock and had a very informative, convincing and beautiful day at AIDA, where my desired position as scout or travel companion appealed to me more and more. So I quickly got closer to my dream and felt quite comfortable despite a new, unfamiliar environment. My feelings on the journey home from Rostock were very mixed, but my goal seemed within reach. The next day I was woken up by a delightful message from AIDA and got the job offer. Relief and excitement at the same time!
In the following days, I eagerly received all the information about the assigned ship and my travel regions. So I was supposed to work aboard the AIDAcara with routes in Northern Europe, which should range from winter Norway to Denmark, Sweden, the Baltic states, Russia, and finish with Scotland, Iceland, and Greenland, fulfilling a dream of my own as most of these destinations were still open on my personal map. A stroke of luck, even if it would probably be rather cold... ;-)
In December 2016, it was time for me to attend the 5-day necessary safety training at AFZ Rostock, where newcomers to the AIDA fleet were taught some basic health and safety instructions. Besides jumping into the cold waters of Warnow Canal, we got fascinating insights into life on board, were excited about everything that awaited us, and got to know like-minded people who also dream of the great freedom on the ship. A great experience that quickly showed me that it is worth fighting for my dream and now making it come true. Overall, I felt well prepared, yet I also realized that there were still some tasks ahead before the big journey could begin. All in all, I looked ahead with great confidence and hope for a new chapter in my still young life.
To be continued...
