Two weeks in Lima

Yes, there is a lot to report again. On Friday we visited a German couple who have been in Lima for 2 years and work for a missionary society here. Our son Johannes, who knows both of them, made the contact. We immediately felt very comfortable with each other. They live very close by, we just made the mistake of driving there by car. Most of the time we were stuck in traffic, but somehow we managed it. They were also able to give us some tips on what to do and where. So far, we have hardly had the opportunity to do anything ourselves, as Martin is very busy with his work and daily life takes up a lot of our time. We then took a walk together through a guarded villa district on the mountain, from where we had a view of Lima. Unfortunately, it was cloudy and foggy, as it has been most of the time.

On Saturday was a special day: we were picked up in the morning by a taxi and taken to Pachacamac, which is an hour south of here. There we were warmly invited by a German-Peruvian couple who are grateful that there is a pastor responsible for the congregation again. And at 1:00 p.m. Martin was supposed to perform a wedding ceremony in Spanish. So we experienced a very interesting wedding, which took place outside and got to know interesting people. Of course (almost) everything in Spanish. In the evening, the driver brought us back to Lima. The journey was exciting enough. In the outskirts, it became poorer and the desert became visible.

Today, the first in-person church service took place, and we celebrated the 1st Advent together with over 30 people. This way we got to know even more people who were all extremely warm-hearted towards us.

Oh, and I almost forgot: tonight we were woken up by a quite strong earthquake. It rattled twice in a row, so you held your breath. Today we learned that the epicenter was in the Amazon region and a village was almost completely destroyed. Fortunately, no one was injured. The magnitude was 7.3 on the Richter scale.
