On our way to Lisbon, Leon and I spent two days in Madrid. The Spanish capital is located 667m above sea level in the highlands of Castile. It is therefore the highest capital in the EU. Since we both had little time beforehand to familiarize ourselves with Madrid and its sights, we simply strolled around on our first day. Soon we realized that despite its total of 3.3 million inhabitants, the city center is very manageable. Even without a plan, we therefore visited the largest squares and churches in the city, the royal palace and the largest park. In the afternoon, we spontaneously visited the Museo Reina Sofía and viewed the art of Picasso, Dalí and Miró.
On the second day in Madrid, we walked through the botanical garden (which includes the largest bonsai collection in Spain), sat in the park and read, watched the sunset from the city mountain, and went to the cinema. Overall, we had a very nice and relaxing time. Today we continue to Lisbon, where our new apartment awaits us. We are both very much looking forward to it :-)
