After the third night in beautiful Aus (this time with a mouse), we head east towards Keetmanshoop, the "capital of the south" of Namibia.
We bought delicious barbecue food, two huge watermelons, and large amounts of water for our 5 days in the Kalahari (no network, no internet, no shops). We are especially excited about this Transfrontier Park (between Namibia, South Africa, and Botswana). It is known for its lions and red sand.
This afternoon, we took a trip to the Quiver Tree Forest near Keetmanshoop. These trees (which are not actually trees, but aloe) usually stand alone, sometimes you can find them in groups like a forest, like here. The large trees are 200-300 years old. It was incredibly beautiful and enchanting for all of us to wander/climb in this "forest". A truly special experience for all of us.
Many people come here to photograph the trees at sunrise or sunset because it is such a unique subject. Unfortunately, we had to leave earlier; others set up their tents right there (a beautiful campsite, we would have loved to stay there).
We are staying at the "Schützenhaus". It's funny how there are still many things that are very "typically German" here. Like the menu with Kassler roast and sauerkraut, for example.
