Island Tag 2: on the Norröna, the ferry of Smyril Line

Uñt’ayata: 22.06.2022

Delicious breakfast at Munch's in Denmark, it's sunny and warm. Susanne is a bit nervous if everything will work out with the ferry. We are dutifully at the port more than 2 hours before departure, everything is running smoothly, Smyril Line is well organized. We have cabin no. 8305 on deck 8: Veidifalkur. Instead of a room key, there is a cardboard card with a QR code, each door is decorated with a different local bird on the outside - probably so that even in seasickness you can still find your cabin - we have this falcon.

On deck, it's already terribly windy before departure, we watch the departure from the port and then retreat to the sheltered cabin. There is surprisingly little movement at sea, I manage the day without a sedation patch or motion sickness gum. It's a strange feeling to know that we will spend the next 48 hours here. No one wears a mask on the ship, operations in the restaurants and at the bar are normal. However, we have so much provisions with us and a small water kettle for tea & instant soups that we can avoid these corona hotspots.

The day passes surprisingly quickly with chatting, reading, browsing through the travel guide and "stimulating the gray matter", i.e. working on difficult Sudoku puzzles. We don't even have time to turn on the huge TV that is hanging opposite the double bed. We observe the Norwegian south coast for a long time, which we pass by. There is Wi-Fi on deck 5 at the proud price of €5 for 4 hours, but we can both use the code alternately and change it as often as we like.
