We took a speedboat for 30 minutes from Phuket to Koh Yao Yai. The ferry ride cost us 200 baht, which is equivalent to 6 Swiss francs. The name of the island translates to 'big, long island'. Around 9,000 people live on Koh Yao Yai. Most of the islanders are Sunni Muslims who make a living mainly from rubber cultivation, selling coconuts, and fishing. Our accommodation was right on the beach and our balcony had direct access to the pool. In the evening, during a short jog on the 1.5 km long sandy beach, I had a view of a beautiful, atmospheric sunset. During the day, we relaxed by the pool and enjoyed the sun. In the evening, we strolled along the beach and ate at one of the few restaurants in the area. We didn't see many tourists during these two days and the atmosphere was very calm and idyllic. A perfect place to unwind - far away from the hustle and bustle. The next day, we were picked up early and our journey continued to Krabi by speedboat.
