Ko Lanta / Thailand

Uñt’ayata: 20.01.2018

16/12/17 - 20/12/17

With the bus and ferry, we went together to the island of Ko Lanta. Here we explored all the nearby beaches, played beach ball, and always had good food 😊

In the evening, we took a tuk-tuk motorcycle to the center and strolled through the huge night market.

Then it was my birthday and my mom gave us a 4-islands trip with a longtail boat.

When we were waiting for our pickup, it was windier than usual.. When we arrived at the port and saw the waves, we felt a bit uncomfortable, but what can we do? We're not crossing the open sea and we'll be on this boat for a maximum of 20 minutes. Or so we thought. The small wooden boat sputtered off and at first everything was fine until we suddenly went out into the open sea. When I asked the driver how long it would take in total and he said one hour, we all looked at each other with fear.. Even if the view was so beautiful, we couldn't really enjoy it at that moment because we were afraid of capsizing every minute. The ride was really a nightmare, as this small wooden boat was simply not built for these conditions. We all felt sick and panic boiled inside us more and more. We were so happy to finally have arrived at the first island. A white dream beach and turquoise water - crystal clear! This horror ride was really worth it.

We went snorkeling at two different spots where we felt more comfortable in the water than on this boat 😀 The last stop was a huge rock, about 30 meters high, in the middle of the open sea. We were supposed to put on life jackets and wait in the water for our guide. Suddenly, he came into the water with a headlamp and told us to swim behind him. We went into a cave in the middle of this rock where total darkness reigned for 80 meters. You couldn't even see your hand in front of your face. When he shone the light onto the ceiling, thousands of bats were hanging there. The whole thing was kind of creepy, but at the same time one of the coolest and most bizarre things we have ever experienced on the trip. So we swam about 100 meters, 80 of them in complete darkness, through this cave and finally saw light again at the other end. What awaited us there was indescribable! The huge rock was hollow inside and surprised us in the middle of the open sea, in the middle of a rock, with a white dream beach surrounded by huge rock walls with palm trees and other trees. In the rock, there was only a slightly larger hole through which the sun shone. It was amazing!!! 😊😊😊

It took another 1.5 hours by boat to get back to the port, which really took a toll on us. It was really really no fun anymore. But luckily we survived it and arrived back at the port with weak knees 😀
