04.11 Amphawa Floating Market

Uñt’ayata: 05.11.2017

Today we got up very early!

Already at 10:00 am we were picked up by my uncle's driver, who took us to the Amphawa Floating Market, about 90 minutes away from Bangkok. Once we arrived there, my grandma and I rented a small longtail boat with a driver for about 15 €, who took us along the Mae Klong River and to various Buddhist temples.

All of them were beautiful, but in my opinion, some of them were too commercialized. Sometimes, there were more donation boxes than Buddha statues, which I found very disappointing and inappropriate.

After exploring 5 temples and a variety of beautiful small houses along the riverbank, we were dropped off at the starting point after about 3 hours.

Together with the driver, we now headed to the floating markets.

We walked through narrow alleys with delicious and sometimes very exotic food (e.g., maggots) at makeshift shops until we reached the river. I ordered lunch for everyone on the riverbank. Strengthened by chicken noodle soup, we continued exploring the riverbank. After about 2 hours of exploration, we started our journey back home.

Before heading back, I quickly enjoyed a grilled corn cob for the journey back for 20 Baht (approx. 0.50 €). The driver safely took us back to our apartment.

We had dinner together with Dirk and Best.

After Dirk had ordered the whole menu, we went home full. I am now sitting on the balcony, enjoying the view.

The flight to Chiang Mai is tomorrow at 10:40 am.
