So 26.9. Reisadalen - Alta - Bergfest

Uñt’ayata: 26.09.2021

Clear at night, sunny in the morning, later cloudy

At one o'clock at night, Gerd has to go to the toilet, and because he has to leave the cabin for that, he sees that the wonderful Northern Lights are shining again. He wakes up Gondula and together we experience the fantastic spectacle again, in bright moonlight, starry sky and freezing cold. This time there are no disturbing lights, there is neither electricity nor other houses in the area, we are alone in nature!

In the morning, after leaving the cabin, we go for a short hike to Sarafossen. The path to this waterfall requires a steep ascent of 300 meters, but it is very good for Norwegian standards. The waterfall rushes and foams down 178 meters and has carved a deep gorge into the rocks.

We are safe, but there are dangerous rocky overhangs for last selfies ....

On the way back to the E6, we see our first moose, a young male, crossing the road. Unfortunately, there is not enough time for a photo.

Heading towards Alta, on the pass over the Kvænangenfjell, Gerd suddenly has to brake hard as a reindeer unexpectedly runs across the road.

After this encounter, we have to recover first, but we still enjoy the view of the glaciers across.

Then we continue our journey and pass the northernmost point of our trip - and of our lives so far. It is a bend in the road a few kilometers before Alta, and we are north of the 70th parallel, at the same latitude as Southern Greenland and Northern Canada. From now on, our tour goes south again, so tonight we celebrate our halfway point. We are filled with a sense of melancholy, soon we will leave Norway and somehow we are now on the way back.
