Relax Day on the coast of Tulum (02/24/2022)

Uñt’ayata: 25.02.2022

After the last few days were intense with diving, today was all about soaking up the sun and recharging. The day started off rough, with a power outage in the entire neighborhood around 07:00, which affected everything from the toilet flush to the Wi-Fi. This also meant that we only found out about the news regarding the Ukraine crisis around noon (17:00 CET), which became the topic of the day. It's horrifying and absolutely reprehensible what has been happening in Ukraine in the past few hours. However, we decided to make the best out of the day and enjoy the beautiful place, as we can't influence the news anyway.

We spent the day reading, swimming, and soaking up the sun (sometimes a bit too much, as we discovered in the evening with our sunburns...). In between, we also witnessed iguanas fighting (or mating - we're not sure) at the pool area and watched the pelicans "fishing". We also made plans for the upcoming days and, of course, improved our tequila mixing skills. Watermelon juice is a great companion to the Mexican cult drink, by the way. Although there was no joy about the result of the Rapid Europa League match, it didn't spoil the relaxed atmosphere. After sunset, we cooked together again and enjoyed the end of a very relaxing day. Tomorrow will be more active with a road trip to Merida.

The Two of the Day:

Insight: Two sentences about hammocks to match today. The hammock is said to have its origins in the Yucatan region (at least the net hammock) and is a very popular souvenir of the region. High-quality Mexican hammocks are made of cotton threads (not nylon) and are braided by hand for 30-80 hours. More information: https://www.planet-mexico.com/reisetipps/souvenirs/haengematte/

Happy moment: Sun, tequila, and a good book. That's how you can enjoy a day.
