Phong Nha, Vietnam

Uñt’ayata: 14.04.2018

From Ninh Binh, we allowed ourselves for the first time to load our motorcycles onto a bus to cover the 400 kilometers to Phong Nha. This should shorten the 2500 kilometers that still need to be done. It worked really well. At 8:00 p.m., the Car arrived and the driver with two helpers removed the front wheels and stowed the bikes in the cargo hold. When we arrived at 5:00 a.m. (over an hour early!), they all diligently reassembled everything.

So we were able to take a one-hour night ride to our hostel in Phong Nha.

In Phong Nha, we went to visit the Paradise Cave. The cave was first discovered in 2005 and is the longest dry cave in Vietnam, with a length of 31 kilometers. Unfortunately, without a guided tour, you are only allowed to go about one kilometer. But the immense size, even just of the first room, is incredible. It is hard to imagine what went through the mind of the person who first discovered the cave.

On the way back, we stopped by the Botanic Garden. It was completely different from what we knew from Melbourne, Brisbane, or Rockhampton. It was more like a jungle walk, which we of course enjoyed. Unfortunately, our sense of direction was a bit clouded, so we ended up climbing up a mountain instead of walking a few meters down to the waterfall. :)

Next Stop Hue.
