Day 13 - "Sunshine" Village

Uñt’ayata: 15.02.2018

The wake-up call is at 07:30, but getting up is a bit hesitant due to the uncertain weather forecast. On the second attempt at the cafe in front of the house, we also manage to have breakfast. Then we drive about 20km to the Sunshine Village ski area. With the (Swiss) gondola, we go up to the ski area or more 'back'. Once we reach the top, we see a chairlift with orange bubbles and take it immediately, because it's once again rather cold, although the sun is pushing through the clouds a bit.

Thanks to the seat heating, we finally have warm fingers and bottoms again, as it was actually only the second chairlift we took. By the way, we paid a whopping $ 114.45 for the biggest and most expensive ski resort so far, which is still over 90.00 in Swiss Francs. For lunch, we had a whole pizza for the two of us, although the normally hungry Yves didn't want to finish his part. That's why he won't get dessert tonight (this is what Christian says and he'll check it too). During lunch, the sky darkens and fog patches move in, which impairs visibility.

Thanks to the foamy fresh snow on the slopes, the driving fun is still unclouded. Except for one descent where we get lost in the fog and end up at the very edge of the ski area and have to walk a bit (especially Yves with the snowboard), we have a great day on the slopes. A good final day for our Canada ski and snowboard tour. Since it started snowing after lunch, we have to dig our car out of the snow once again. As it is still snowing, we wear caps in the hot tub (without swimwear), which looks quite funny.

While Yves is testing the sauna (rather cool at 70° degrees), Christian is unsuccessfully trying to check in online with Air Canada, well at least we can reserve the seats (hopefully). Due to Yves' beer-infused insistence, we do a beer tasting of the 4 different beers from the Big Rock Brewery in Vancouver that are still in our supplies. We are completely wrong (1 out of 4 guessed correctly), Christian's beer knowledge has room for improvement.

This report was written during the beer tasting in front of the unlit fireplace with alternating sentences.

Now we're going to walk to the downtown of Banff, which is about a 20-minute walk away, on foot to have one last good burger or something. Before we start walking, we watch the men's downhill, go Beat and co.

Postscript (late in the evening): We dared to light the fire. Unfortunately, it never really burned due to the rather damp wood, but it did stink... The wood eventually ended up on the snow-covered balcony.
