What to do in Italy - even on a city holiday at the end of October?
Of course, go to the beach for a swim. And with the help of climate change, this is still possible at the height of Rome at the end of October.
We first took the bus to the city limits and then, with the cheap and brand new train, headed about 1/2 hour northwest to Santa Marinella - a small picturesque seaside resort. It was only 300 meters from the train station to the sandy beach.
The weather was nice, around 25 degrees Celsius, and the sea was still clearly above 22 degrees. The children were definitely at the beach or in the water from 12 to 6 PM and had a great time.
They played the journey of the Nautilus with a palm log. Julius was Captain Nemo and Konstantin was the professor. It's a good thing we're currently reading '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea'.
As well as the journey there went, we wandered through half of Rome on the way back until we quickly ate some pizza slices near our apartment at 9 PM, hungry (and I was hungry and grumpy).
