The weather report puzzles us. For the next two days, there is an increased risk of thunderstorms in the afternoon. This means that larger hikes are already out of our plans since we are not willing to wake up at 6 AM. However, we want to make the most of the good weather, so on our first day in Savica, after breakfast, we head to Lake Bohinj. It is much quieter here than Lake Bled, which we really like. We find a wooden deck chair by the lake, where we spread out our towels, read in the sun, and occasionally refresh ourselves in the lake. The lake is quite cold, but perfect for a little cooling off.
Clouds start to gather at noon and it begins to drizzle, so we decide to move our lunch break to our vacation apartment. There, we wait for blue skies after eating. In the late afternoon, the clouds give way and the sunshine breaks through their dense cover. We take the opportunity to go back to the lake and rent paddleboards. As we stand on our boards with wobbly legs, the sun shines from the sky, making the next 1 ½ hours a perfect experience. We paddle out onto Lake Bohinj, with the mountains of Triglav National Park in front of us and the clear mountain lake beneath us. Simply awesome! (Even though this blog obviously aims to convince with its serious language, colloquial language is allowed at this point. It was just really amazing ; ))
Without falling off the board, we return them and go home.
When we wake up the next morning and check the weather report, we quickly realize that the day will be similar to yesterday. There is a high risk of thunderstorms again and rain is forecasted for noon/afternoon. This leads us back to the lake in the morning. Since we enjoyed it so much yesterday, we rent boards again today and paddle across the lake. After the morning round of stand-up paddling, we lie in the sun and read. Clouds and rain move in, so we go home to eat. The only difference from yesterday is that we are too lazy to go out again in the afternoon. We prefer to enjoy the benefits of the vacation apartment (the balcony!) and put our feet up.
That's how our days in northwestern Slovenia come to an end. We highly recommend the region. If you enjoy hiking, peace in nature, and/or action in nature, this is the right place for you!!
Tomorrow we will continue to southwestern Slovenia. We are curious to see if the country will continue to impress us as it has so far.
