A day trip to Faro is a must. Faro and Portugal in general are perceived as quieter and more relaxed than Spain. Less crowds in city centers. We leisurely stroll through the old town of Faro and Nicole visits the Bone Chapel - Capela dos Ossos in the Igreja do Carmo. This church was built between 1719 and 1906. What's special about this church is that the monks constructed a chapel made of bones from deceased monks in the backyard of the church. This is supposed to remind people of the transience of life, as stated in an inscription. Many skulls are still intact. And somehow it was a bit creepy to stand in a room that was built with human remains. But still, it's an impressive building.
One day before our trip, dolphins were spotted in the port of Faro. According to authorities, they are believed to have fled from orcas. Unfortunately, we couldn't spot any dolphins on the promenade in front of the port or in the port itself. Faro is definitely worth a visit and easy to explore.
