Waipawa Logbook, Day 14

Uñt’ayata: 17.12.2017

Today a new crew member was supposed to arrive in the afternoon. So after finishing work, we went to the beach - which by the way is called Murderers Bay because some people were murdered here in the past. Well, still a beautiful island with an incredible viewpoint - Ida and I visited this beach 5 years ago on our day sailing trip. It's really strange to recognize places and have been there before on the other side of the world. Who would have thought that I would see them again :)

This time we wanted to weave a basket from the flax plant, not just a plate. We collected the leaves and started weaving them at the beach. We managed to make the straight part, but how should the wall work? Okay, let's pack everything up - we'll figure it out on the boat. Yeah, YouTube makes it possible :) After watching a video, we thought we were now professionals and after opening everything up again once and watching the video another time, we made it. After that, we picked up Sienna from the bus and brought her to the Waipawa. She is a 20-year-old Australian and very nice. There was BBQ for dinner, or as the Aussies say, Barbie :)
