Dear readers, thank you for your patience. Unfortunately, we cannot provide breakfast blog updates as regularly as we did last week in Alsace. It seems that St. Peter is not yet prepared for our age group... We were very happy when we heard yesterday that there is a hotspot in the tourist information office. And the test yesterday morning was successful. So yesterday evening, we sat near the 'Linde' (yes, the one where the dance evening took place), which was supplied by the hotspot, and wanted to upload pictures and texts for you. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Our assumption that the hotspot is only open when the tourist information office is also open was denied this morning by the employees there. However, there was no WiFi in the tourist information office this morning either. And unfortunately, there is only temporary mobile network coverage. So now you get texts without pictures, because even the WiFi in our vacation apartment can do that... because here, too, the bytes are pushed through the line by hand... but well, the nature here is beautiful and you can't have everything. Just for your information: we are willing, but the Black Forest technology still works with a hammer and chisel.
Today, after a nutritious breakfast (because you never know where we'll end up...) we set off on a tour of Gerhard's childhood memories. Gerhard spent his vacation in Todtnauberg with his parents when he was 7 or 8 years old and was curious if 'his' swimming pool, where he learned to swim, still exists. After a nice drive with curves of all kinds, we arrived in the village at an altitude of 1150m. And after a little searching, we actually found the old swimming pool (by the way, the highest swimming pool in Germany!).
Basically the same story as yesterday :-) a swimming pool with a small ticket booth... The entrance fee was €1.50 more expensive... probably because of the altitude :-)
After that, we wanted to go to the signposted waterfall.
Unsuspectingly, I wanted to go in my motorcycle suit... Gerhard was able to convince me to change clothes...(me (of course only in my thoughts): it shouldn't be that difficult... but I was wrong). And then it started.
Harmlessly downhill along a babbling brook that gained speed. The downhill stairs gave no indication of the upcoming 100 meters of elevation. Here's the edge of the falls:
The waterfall has a total height of 94m (already a bit like Iceland, @Dori), and we went down and up!
In my thoughts, I kissed Gerhard's feet.
Once we reached the top, we had to air dry before we could 'slip' into our suits. After that, we searched for and maybe found and photographed the vacation accommodation from back then. Gerhard went alone to explore the waterfall early in the morning before his parents woke up... well, luckily nothing happened.
After this little trip down memory lane, we continued on to Feldberg.
There, we visited a bird of prey show. The bird of prey handler was a character, a mixture of 'Almöhi' and eagle dad, and was fully committed to his task.
We could even touch some of the birds... definitely very entertaining. And on this occasion, we could see the approaching thunderstorm front from an exposed spot, which motivated us to leave quickly. So we went back to St. Peter, quickly went shopping, cooked a delicious meal, and waited. When we arrived in St. Peter and had everything we needed, we could even have coffee on the terrace in the sun. It wasn't until around 8:30 pm that it started to thunder... And now the satellite reception is down! There's nothing left to do... Dear readers, here's today's text. Only God knows when the pictures will follow... And there is hope for the internet: our WiFi in the vacation apartment works when you're sitting on the couch! Good news!!
