Melbourne

After 2 months of work, the journey finally begins!

On Saturday, we walked early in the morning towards Shepparton train station from where we took the train to Melbourne. Once we arrived there, we had to figure out how to get to our hostel. So far, everything went well. We took the train towards the hostel and had to walk a bit from the station. In the street where our accommodation should be, we didn't see an obvious hostel. We were standing there, searching, until a strange guy approached us and asked if we were looking for the hostel. He pointed to a really small house that looked like it was about to collapse from the outside. Being very skeptical, we went inside and looked for the "manager". He came towards us completely stoned and didn't even want to see our reservation. He put us in a mixed 8-bed room, which we did not reserve. So we just left because it was so disgusting, smelling like urine and other things, and we wouldn't have been able to sleep there. Despairing, shocked, and homeless, we sat on the side of the road and searched the internet for what to do. We decided to check out two other hostels and ask for a room there. After 7 hours on our feet with heavy backpacks, we overlooked the curb and fell down, scraping our leg 🙁. Then we just took the first hostel we found (even though it was expensive). That day, we only went to the Luna Park, the beach, and had a cozy drink in the evening.

Today, we went to an outlet center and walked around the city a bit. We went to a big market in Chinatown and to the graffiti street, and in the evening we had a cozy dinner.

Tomorrow, we will finally pick up our car. Then our road trip can begin. First, we will drive along the Great Ocean Road towards the Great Otway National Park.
