Our second destination was Can Tho, to explore the Mekong Delta and take a tour to the famous Floating Market. Thanks to Sandra, I had already made a contact in advance and was able to book a tour early and also the hostel.
On Monday, we took the sleeping bus from Ho Chi Minh at 11 o'clock sharp. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, the previous evening was a classic Denny night 😂
Tommy went to bed earlier and I went for a walk alone through the streets. There I met two Englishmen who were there for 3 days of partying. Holy moly, these Englishmen never stop, and I'm easily persuaded in such situations 😂 So it went on very, very late and there were a few drinks, of course.
Fortunately, I was able to sleep for 4 hours on the bus and when we arrived in Can Tho, I went to relax at the hostel. It was raining cats and dogs outside anyway. In the evening, we went to the food market and ate and drank for less than a euro. I love this country 😉.
On Tuesday, the alarm clock rang at half past 4 to start with Tran, our tour guide. Definitely not my time 😂 But we were rewarded with a magnificent sunrise. We sailed up the Mekong in a small boat and after 45 minutes, we reached the Floating Market. A crazy whirl of activity early in the morning. People live in small floating houses, wash their clothes in the river, and take their children to school by boat. Somehow, it feels like going back a few decades. We had breakfast at the market. The best Pho (noodle soup) ever. Then we went to a second floating market, where there was a variety of local fruits. After that, we visited an orchard and a traditional rice noodle factory, where we could experience all the steps to make the perfect rice noodle.
Now that we're back at the hostel, it's time for a nap. Tomorrow we're going to Mui Ne. Finally at the beach, even if it means sitting on the bus for 8 to 10 hours tomorrow. But hey, they're sleeping buses, so we'll just lie down and enjoy the scenery for 8 to 10 hours.
