Stage 25: Chatenois - Kaysersberg

Uñt’ayata: 25.04.2019

I have breakfast in my backpack, I could make myself a coffee in the hostel.

Saint Georges says goodbye to me in the morning sun, it's going to be 26 km.

It was the day when hiking shoes were absolutely necessary: every small town was at an elevation of 250m, the vineyards in between were at 400m. The same thing after every town. Colmar is deselected, it should be something like a half rest day, I am now taking the stages as from the travel guide. So today still Kaysersberg. On the way only picturesque old towns, as if you are in the Middle Ages.

I'm surprised that I haven't heard anything about them at all: Kintzheim, Orschwiller, Ribeauville, Hunawihr, Riquewihr- but the rest of the world already knows them. The pictures reflect the impressions:

It was another very hot day, the arm sleeves passed their first test against sunburn.

In the evening I am at 688 km and the 26th day of the long journey. So a quarter of my journey (in days) is done, I have planned a total of 105 days. With a total of 2500 km, everything would be consistent, but from Arnstadt it is probably just under 3000 km to Santiago de Compostela. My further route does not go via Vezelay, but further east via Taizé/ Le Puy de Velay, which is again a bit longer.

But today I have put at least three Jakobuses on my side:

Jakobus in Hunawihr
Jakobus in Hunawihr
Jakobusfenster Eglise Saint-Jacques Hunawihr
Jakobusfenster Eglise Saint-Jacques Hunawihr
Jakobus as coronator peregrinorum in Kaysersberg
Jakobus as coronator peregrinorum in Kaysersberg

Tomorrow rain gear will be needed, I'm going to the monastery in Saint-Marc.
