We pack our things in the 'Wish' and embark on our first big trip heading north. The plan is about 300 km, with uncertain stops. Destination: Waitata Bay near Russell.
We let the road lead us and first we arrive at Shakespere National Park where we see untouched nature for the first time - New Zealand, just as we imagined.
The journey continues on 'Highway 1' (similar to Gaberl Bundesstraße) towards Omaha Bay. There awaits a surfer's paradise and a dreamy beach for us. While having a snack, we observe the hustle and bustle on the beach where children are taking surf lessons and dogs eagerly fetch sticks from the sea for their owners.
For a moment, we even consider having a day at the beach, but the perceived water temperature of 16°C convinces us to postpone it for another time. So, we continue driving to reach our destination on time.
However, since we are well on schedule, we decide to leave the highway and drive to Russell via the 'Coastal Road' (average speed 30 km/h, maximum speed 60 km/h). This detour should definitely be worth it: beautiful bays, breathtaking views, diverse vegetation, four seasons, and arriving in Russell right on time.
Finally, we find our accommodation, a beautiful nature resort in Waitata Bay, with a view of the sea (dolphins included) that leaves us speechless! We are curious about what awaits us on the farm and we look forward to keeping you updated.
