Fifth Stop: Kasane

Uñt’ayata: 11.02.2018

I have Wi-Fi at the reception, so I quickly report to you about today. I woke up too early again (6:15 am). Somehow, I don't sleep well here and usually not for very long. However, this morning I was able to enjoy the sun again, so getting up early didn't bother me. Showering, dismantling tents, and having breakfast were on the agenda. At just before 10 o'clock, we set off towards Kasane as usual. As a German with punctuality, this is starting to annoy me a bit, but I guess I have to get used to it. Apart from us volunteers, there is also a couple from Cape Town who generally do not fit into our group, and there are often conflicts. I don't think I've told you about them yet. Anyway, they are always over an hour late for breakfast every morning and then have the guides dismantle their tent. It annoys me, but I should just try to overlook it. It just doesn't work very well 😉

After successfully crossing the border of Botswana, withdrawing Botswana Pula (currency), and doing some shopping, we arrived at the Chobe Safari Lodge around 2 pm. We were warmly greeted with a drink and shown around by our guide. The lodge has both apartments and a campsite where we sleep. After a quick lunch, we went on a three-hour boat safari on the Chobe River. We were blessed with bright sunshine, impressive nature, and numerous animals. We saw countless hippos and even hippo babies 😍, buffaloes, many crocodiles, kudus, various birds, and even a huge herd of elephants 🐘🐘. It was so beautiful. I took thousands of photos and videos, but I haven't had a chance to upload them to my phone yet. We returned around 6:30 pm, and to top it off, we had a beautiful sunset. It was our first one on this trip, and it was like something out of a picture book. That's AFRICA!!

Today it presented itself with all its beauty.

Tomorrow we will continue 600km to Maun. 500km of it is through the wilderness and 300km on gravel roads. That means a long drive awaits us.
