Aubigny to Vierzon, day 12

Uñt’ayata: 29.07.2023

Saturday, July 29, 2023, Day 12. We survived the night, Claude, our host, is a really nice, friendly person, but his filthy place is a dirty, stinky hole. We left without tea and coffee and breakfast and went to town to have espresso and coffee at the nearest cafe. At the weekly market, we bought two fresh grilled chicken legs to take with us for our lunch break, see photo. Then we set off, on time, keeping an eye on the rain front, walking briskly to escape the rain front. Today went quite well, the legs held up well again, less headwind but dark rain clouds threatening. We knew we would be safe until noon. The first 26 km without a break. Then the rain front got closer. We have had enough of having to rely on the rain front and have already considered how it would be to escape the rain by taking a proper train ride southwest. If we could pass under the low over the Bay of Biscay and only reappear with our bikes behind it, it sounds like a tempting plan. And while we are on our bikes, thinking about this great plan, we ride through the rain, pedaling hard and full throttle towards our destination, which resulted in a pretty high average speed today. We got pretty wet. We arrive in Vierzon in the afternoon, have a pretty good accommodation, next to a laundromat and a brasserie, settle into our apartment, take a very long shower, not least to get rid of the smell from last night, go to the brasserie to enjoy a nice glass of wine while our laundry at the laundromat soaks for 6 euros.
