8. Plitvice Lakes

Uñt’ayata: 17.03.2023

Day 8: Plitvice Lakes National Park is the oldest national park in Croatia, known for its appearance in the Winnetou movies.

Usually, the park is crowded with tourists, but today it was quite peaceful. We planned to explore the park in two days, but due to heavy rainfall and snowfall last week, the upper part of the park was closed. So, we don't know how it looks like there, but the lower part is absolutely worth seeing! Some sections of the paths were flooded and even frozen (it was reported that it reached -6 degrees Celsius at night), but it gave a unique charm to the whole experience. The water was rushing and splashing over stairs and waterfalls. In the mist created by the water, we could see small rainbows appearing from time to time. It was a wonderful natural spectacle!

Afterwards, we continued our journey to Starigrad-Paklenica on the coast and now we are right by the sea.
