Off to the Algarve

Uñt’ayata: 10.08.2020

Our flight from Frankfurt via Lisbon to Faro with TAP Portugal went smoothly. The car rental pick-up was a delight compared to our experience in Mallorca last year, and we quickly made our way to our vacation spot in Tavira. After 30 minutes in our white Fiat, we were able to settle into our stylish accommodation at Tavira Garden. Finally arrived! So far, everything has been without haste, disasters, and mistakes - a new experience for us traveling with three children... but also nice. ;-)

Tavira is located on the Gilão River and is a small coastal town on the Portuguese Algarve. For the next 12 days, it will be our place of relaxation. The picturesque town with its approximately 26,000 inhabitants is rich in history and offers a beautifully preserved old town, the medieval Castelo de Tavira, and 37! churches.

Today, we started by going to the beach, Praia do Barril. It's a wonderful, long sandy beach with crystal clear and pleasantly warm water. However, it could have been two or three degrees warmer for those of us who are more sensitive to the temperature.

After taking a look at the anchor cemetery - Cemitério das Âncoras - we finally sat down to eat. Seafood was served, especially delicious tuna that has been caught here in a traditional and sustainable way for decades.

On the way back, we didn't pass Go, but we did stop by the pool of our accommodation complex. We didn't win 4,000.00 marks, but we had a lot of fun.

Now we're enjoying the evening on our terrace with a glass of white wine and a bottle of Portuguese Super Bock (it sounds more like a Bavarian strong beer than Cerveja), but it tastes good.

Boa noite and see you tomorrow...
