Fire Lookout, in memory of Jack Kerouac

Uñt’ayata: 22.09.2021

10.9. We wake up around 8 am. Since we ate so much yesterday, we skip breakfast and head out. A short hike to Park Butte Fire Lookout reveals wonderful views of Mount Baker. Many fire lookouts can be used as overnight accommodations on a first-come, first-served basis, which four women will do tonight. The way back becomes a bit more adventurous as the river we had to cross on stones now has more water and we have to wade through the river with our shoes off. It is quite cloudy and we decide not to visit the other side of Mount Baker and instead head towards the Olympic Peninsula. On the way, our car Carlito needs an oil change in Burlington, and the laundry is in need of a washing machine. We make it to Oak Harbour with a stop at Bastion Brewery, where we visit another brewery (Wicked Teuton) and have dinner at a Korean restaurant. Today, we won't be staying at a campground. We park for the night at the end of a street between two houses with a large green area.
