Arrival in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City

Uñt’ayata: 25.06.2024

After a total of around 20 hours of travel, we arrived safely in Ho Chi Minh City and were greeted with 26°C, sunshine and humidity that immediately put our sweat glands to the test. Highlights of the flight were firstly that, despite different bookings and no online check-in, we were able to sit not only next to each other, but also by the emergency exit with plenty of legroom. And secondly, the in-flight service from Vietnam Airlines - Scoot can really learn a lot from this in terms of value for money.

Since we arrived in the morning, we still had the whole day ahead of us, so we wanted to take the bus to our accommodation, drop off our luggage and then head off again to explore the city. The bus was already there, so we could get on straight away and then, strangely enough, the conductor sold us 4 tickets (one ticket each for us and our backpacks) for 20,000 Vietnamese Dong. That sounds like a lot of money, but it's not even 1€.

The biggest item on the agenda, besides eating the first Pho, drinking lots and trying not to fall asleep, was a visit to the War Remnants Museum. There you can see not only the fighter planes and tanks used in the Vietnam War, but also the torture methods used by the French during the colonial period. There are also several exhibition rooms that shed light on various aspects of the Vietnam War (course of the war, Agent Orange, war reporters, war crimes committed by the Americans, etc.). One room is even called "Historical Truth" - Donald Trump must have had an advisory role here.

Na das klingt doch gut, dass man einer vietnamesischen Airline vertrauen kann und im nächsten Schuljahr kann mich dann Markus beim Vietnamkrieg im Ge-Unterricht unterstützen 😁
