In order to get into the American way of life, one thing is essential: sports. Or at least watching others play sports.
We chose a game of the L.A. Clippers against the Dallas Mavericks at the Staples Center - including Dirk Nowitzki. Our roommate already warned us: 'Don't be disappointed. Dirk is not THE Dirk anymore. He will only play for some minutes because he's more like a cheerleader now - well an old and ugly cheerleader.' And that's exactly how it was. Dirk was on the field for only a few minutes and visibly tried to avoid any physical contact to minimize the risk of injury.
Nevertheless, we had an unforgettable evening - with the 'Defense!' chants still ringing in our ears. Watching a game is an incredible spectacle! Although there are constant interruptions - strategic time-outs or simply because of the commercial breaks during the TV broadcast - they are filled with an overwhelming entertainment offer: games, dance performances, or simply mascots throwing goodies into the audience. There's simply no room for boredom!
What was also special was the size of the Staples Center. Even outside, we were overwhelmed by the offerings - there's fast food of all kinds multiple times, various bars, and diverse merchandise stands. Here too, the more the better.
