19.03.2020, Jungle Beach and end of the trip

Uñt’ayata: 03.04.2020

This morning I had Coconut Rotti for breakfast. These are made from a dough of rice flour and coconut milk and fried into a pancake-like flatbread. They were served with jam and a chutney made of onions, garlic, and oil.

After the delicious meal, I walked to Jungle Beach. The walk took about an hour and with the temperatures, it was quite exhausting. Although I could have taken a Tuk Tuk, I really like to explore as much as possible on foot because you see so much more.

The beach was absolutely beautiful. The sun was shining, the water was very clear and turquoise, and there was the jungle behind it. Truly impressive and paradise-like. I got even more tan today and was able to swim a lot. Now I can really enjoy the last few days here, as my return flight is now booked and hopefully secure...

Unfortunately, I have no other choice but to end the trip now, as more and more hostels are closing and flights are being canceled day by day.

Booking my return flight was already difficult enough, and in the end, Papa managed to do it only by calling the airline directly. Because when we looked on the internet and found a flight, it was already fully booked within minutes. Prices are also skyrocketing every day and the question is how long Sri Lanka will even be served, as Sri Lanka has now also issued a travel ban for all foreigners. So it is probably the only right decision, but I definitely want to come back here. The island is so beautiful and I would also like to visit the highlands with the cities of Ella and Kandy someday.

In the evening, I ordered Rice & Curry at the hostel. The portion was huge and I had trouble finishing it all, as I have been more used to smaller portions since Ghana. But the food was delicious! It came with a bowl of rice, a small bowl of potatoes (which I really missed), a bowl of bean curry, jackfruit curry, and a bowl of marinated meat.
