Today we continued our journey towards La Fortuna around 11:00. First, we stopped at the La Paz Waterfall. Expensive story... we didn't know that it includes a kind of zoo. Many animals are housed here that come from various conservation projects. It was really well done, but we just don't like to see animals behind glass. However, the butterfly house was very impressive for everyone. Otherwise, it wasn't worth taking pictures. Except for the leopard, I made an exception. Although there was a glass between us, it really intimidated all of us: an insane animal, the 3rd largest predator in the world. I didn't think the glass was thick enough 🙈😅. After we walked through there, we continued to the waterfall. 4 to be precise. There was almost no one there, we met two backpackers.
Then the first rain caught up with us. Luckily, we are well prepared and no one got wet.
Then we continued to La Fortuna in the Princesa de la Luna Ecolodge.
We have a bungalow here, isolated in the middle of the rainforest. The location is amazing, the bungalow is very basic. No air conditioning, but a fan.
The owner, Steven, is super nice, and Luna, one of the 4 dogs, made it clear that she is watching over us and won't leave our side. 😅😍
She is a mix of the Doberman mom that also lives here and the dad next door, an American Pitbull. A nice mix for guarding🤣. Then it poured down as much as it could. The kids said they had never seen so much rain in their lives. We had to walk about 200 meters through the forest and mud to get to the restaurant in the heaviest monsoon. There we had a simple but delicious dinner. We finished eating just in time for a big bang. It was the transformer... probably killed by the rain. So we sat there in the dark. Do you know how dark it is in the rainforest at night? 🌚
Luckily, we had a flashlight and our phones with us. That's how we made it back to our bungalow. The power came back at some point, but we were all already asleep. It's two o'clock now, and I thought I'd write to you when everyone is asleep and the wifi is back. After breakfast, we'll take a morning hike through the 10-hectare property. I'm curious to see what animals we'll encounter. It just stopped raining, but the day is supposed to be filled with rain again. We'll see. In the afternoon, we'll drive around Lake Arenal. I wish you all a great day!
I just realized that the last 6 pictures are not loaded. Maybe the internet is too slow. I'll catch up on them🤷🏻♀️😅
