Areopolis - Gythion

Uñt’ayata: 20.09.2019

This morning we were rudely awakened by a loud thunder. And then it started dripping. So: get out of bed, move chairs, table, carpet. Grab an umbrella and take the dog for a walk, get bread and start driving. However, the rain didn't last very long. At first it was a sensational 16 degrees, but it didn't take an hour and we had breakfast somewhere in a parking lot by the sea at over 20 degrees and the visit to Areopolis already took place at 25 degrees. It was also nice to be cool...

Areopolis is the most important place in the region with its approximately 800 inhabitants. The Greek god of war Ares was the inspiration for the name. Paved alleyways between high walls, historical residential towers, picturesque courtyards. But time has not stood still here either. In the narrow, winding streets there are plenty of taverns and cafes, and in the main season there is probably a lot of tourism. It's just beautiful here.

Afterwards we continued towards Gythion and found a campsite right on the sandy beach that we like. Now we have 3 days of beach holiday ahead before we continue.

There may be a thunderstorm expected for tonight. That's why we will start the grill and open the bottle of wine in time (of course we will also drink a little).
