A few days ago, I actually signed up for Tinder for fun and set my preferences to find friends, because a dating app lets you see who lives nearby. And I actually got into conversation with a girl, Janne. She lives in Selfoss, just under an hour from my farm, and is doing an AuPair year there. She asked me if I would climb the Ingólfsfjall mountain with her today and I spontaneously agreed.
After I had cleaned the huts in record time this morning, I drove to Selfoss at twenty to one. But of course it was the first time I drove a longer distance and it was kind of clear that something was going to go wrong. The road to Selfoss was closed and I had to take a detour. Actually a really nice detour, but it took me about 1 hour and twenty minutes in the end and I was also stressed.
When I arrived at the meeting point shortly after two, we got along really well and drove the rest of the way to the mountain in her car (we met in Selfoss).
The mountain doesn't even look that high from below, but the ascent was really tough. At the beginning we went up a gravel path, but then followed the small tourist trail. It was damn exhausting and we had to take several breaks where we had really nice chats.
After a total of one hour we were at the top and it was all worth it for the view. You could see all of Selfoss and even see the sea. At the end of the beaten path there was a pile of stones on which there actually was a guest book. Of course we signed up immediately. Then there was a picnic and we walked around the mountain a bit and chatted.
Around twenty past five we then dared to go down. It was significantly worse than the ascent. The ascent was just exhausting, but the descent was really intense. Less than halfway through, both of our legs were shaking and our knees hurt. You really had to pay attention to every single stone in order not to slip. I flew there once, but luckily I didn't hurt myself.
Shortly after six we were finally back down and by the time we got back to my car it was half past six. Luckily the construction site was passable on the way back, so I was home at half past seven.
Now my legs hurt and I can hardly walk stairs, but it was totally worth it.
See you then
