Wednesday, 24 July 2019 – Day 4
Yesterday we walked almost 7 km, so today we slept in and only headed into hot Rome shortly before 1 a.m.
We start again at the Spanish Steps , make a loop to the Giolitti ice cream parlor and finally end up at the Trevi Fountain / Fontana di Trevi . The crowds aren't so bad and it is, I would say, intoxicatingly beautiful here, energizing.
Then we went to the Pantheon with the largest dome made of unreinforced concrete and a 9 m round opening at the apex. It is very impressive what the architects of antiquity created.
Our city walk then takes us to Piazza Navona , a long square with artistically decorated fountains and water features. We then continue through narrow streets to Castel Sant'Angelo. On the banks of the Tiber, a band is doing their sound check with really cool music, which would be a nice option for the evening.
After a look towards the Vatican, the next big loop takes us towards Piazza Popolo and by chance past Brandy Melville. After almost 7 km on foot, we are back at the hotel at 7. The day ends appropriately with tiramisu.
