Welcome to Finland - Willkommen in Finnland!
I would consider myself linguistically gifted or at least I find it easy to understand the essentials of many languages (thanks to my Latin education ;))!
In Finland, however (and previously in Estonia), this tangle of seemingly 100 consecutive vowels and random consonants drives me crazy. The language is distantly related to Hungarian, which is said to be one of the most difficult languages in the world. Well, 'Harjoitus tekee mestarin' - practice makes perfect!
After the aforementioned greeting from our German compatriots in Tallinn, we board the ferry on Saturday at exactly 6:55 am - departure at 7:15 am.
After only 2 hours, we reach the port of Helsinki. First, we have to drive to the 12km accommodation to unload the luggage (the prices in the city itself are typical Scandinavian and therefore too high for our budget). You can already tell: Finland has water! Lakes, rivers, streams, the sea....wherever you look, it's wet everywhere. Unfortunately, today it's wet from above as well, so our sightseeing tour in the afternoon is limited: our feet are still sore from yesterday and we're tired from the morning excitement.
But we like what we have seen so far....if the weather is hopefully better tomorrow, we will take a closer look at the capital: HYVÄÄ YÖTÄ - Good night!
