Day 5 Cu Chi Tunnel and new hostel

On the first evening at the hostel, I met two Croatian sisters (Anja and ???) who told me about their trip. I booked the same excursion. They were nice, but they could talk your ear off. While waiting for the bus, Rahul from India joined our group.

Cu Chi is an area about 50 km from Saigon and Cambodia. In this jungle, about 90% of the people were Viet Cong (not sure if that's true) and they put up strong resistance against the South Vietnamese and Americans. I have to say, the Viet Cong were very creative when it came to underground warfare. The main system consisted of very narrow tunnels that the much larger Americans couldn't fit into. The Vietnamese must have been really small and thin back then. The tunnels were constantly changed, and they built very effective traps from primitive materials. You really can't see them. Some tunnels were expanded for tourists, and I went through a very short one. It was very, very strange and absolutely dark. Overall, it was a good trip. Of course, we were also taken to a shop where you could buy art made by disabled people.

Back in District 1, the four of us went to eat something. The two of them talked nonstop. Well, we then went our separate ways and made plans for the evening (since the new hostel is far away, I had to cancel).

Then I headed to District 15 to the new hostel. I ordered a motorbike via Grab and of course, it started raining during the ride for 10 minutes. Tina (stage name) had messaged me on Couchsurfing. Staying there is free in a 10-person dormitory if you occasionally spend an hour practicing English with some locals. It's like an international flatshare there. People from Poland, Myanmar, Vietnam, Great Britain, Chile, and Honduras lived there. Really a great thing. For dinner, I went to a street restaurant with Trini (Chile) and Alex (Great Britain). The ordering was done by pointing to what you want, and it was delicious. Everyone was very laid-back. The hostel isn't luxury, but it's good enough. There's also a small, very lively cat living there.
