Hi guys,
As mentioned before, we flew to Mumbai, India on 04.01.2017. In hindsight, I would describe Mumbai as hectic, expensive, loud, colorful, and crowded. We spent our first days there and gathered our first impressions of India. Despite all the hustle and bustle, we already love the country, the people, and the culture. Our friend Akhil, whom we met in Brazil, explained to us how Indians tick. It was very interesting to listen to him and visit him, as he showed us places that we would not have found in our dreams. A big thank you to him. One day, we took a walk to a bridge from which you can overlook a huge laundry called Dhobi Ghats. Over 5000 men wash the laundry from Mumbai's hotels in 138 basins, mind you, by hand. Also recommended are the Elephant Caves and the Gateway of India.
After exciting days in Mumbai, we took the train to Jalgaon. The train ride there was the absolute highlight. We sat in this train for about 6 hours and simply absorbed the impressions outside. So many people came and went, sat on the train floor, or slept on second-level luggage racks.
We used Jalgaon as a stopover and went to Ajanta. Ajanta is a cave region with over 28 caves built between 200 BC and 600 AD. The caves are characterized by beautiful, partly well-preserved paintings.
We then continued to Udaipur by bus, where we met Johannes and Debbesch on this journey. More about them later.
In Udaipur, we enjoyed our first evening on the roof of a restaurant, marveling at the view of Pichola Lake.
The next day was dedicated to Kumbhalgarh, the second longest wall after the Great Wall of China. The fortress was built in the 14th century and is 36 km long.
We concluded our time in Udaipur with a motorcycle excursion to the surrounding area of the city, and here comes Johannes and Debbesch into play. We met the two on the bus. Debbesch knows Udaipur like the back of his hand, so he called a few friends to organize three mopeds and off we went on a wild ride to the Monsoon Palace and a temple. We spent the day as we pleased, with lots of chai tea. Thank you guys for this wonderful day.
Best regards, your Egger girls
