30.6.2024 Naples
I had booked an excursion to the "Caserta Palace", which is located in the city of Caserta, north of Naples. The participants of the excursion met at 8:15 a.m., we left the ship and boarded our bus shortly afterwards.
About 45 minutes later we reached Caserta. The castle is right opposite the bus stop. We walked to the impressive building. There I separated from our group because I had bought a ticket for the castle gardens, not for the castle tour.
The wonderful gardens seem to stretch on endlessly. I strolled leisurely through the increasing heat, which reached 32°C at midday, along artificial ponds with large fish, past fountains and statues. I kept taking breaks, sat down on park benches, took a sip from my water bottle and enjoyed the greenery and the peace.
The return journey was scheduled for 1 p.m. I left the castle grounds at around 12 p.m. to stroll around the town a bit. Caserta didn't look particularly inviting, as it was Sunday and most of the shops were closed. But I found a supermarket where I could buy everything I needed for a quick snack.
Refreshed and strengthened, I went back to the bus and waited for my fellow passengers. At around 2 p.m. I was back on board, changed and sat in one of the Jacuzzi pools to let the warm water massage my back. I had a lively conversation with an English and an American couple.
After dinner in the Main Dining Room, I didn't feel like listening to music or watching a movie, so I went to my cabin.
