Today our day started with breakfast at the hotel. We were quickly explained where to find what by a very unfriendly staff member and off she went. Strange for an upscale hotel, but we have already learned that the French are not keen on breakfast. Following our motto 'we are on vacation', we first enjoyed our coffee and a cigarette on the terrace before heading to the actual breakfast.
Strengthened, our car village tour could continue. Barely 1 kilometer driven, our car naturally stopped due to the already known problem, this time in a blind curve.
But we are not discouraged by that, the journey continues.
After passing through the first little villages, we already see the first castle, Rocamadour. A city, a sanctuary, and a castle, all built into a mountain. We decided against the 260 steps and took an elevator to the church level. It was interesting that the churches were carved into the limestone. It felt a bit like being transported back to medieval times. The city and the architecture were truly fascinating, we felt incredibly small and almost reverent.
Our village tour continued, Monpazier, Beaumont-du-Perigord, Issigeac, Bergerac. In the afternoon, we only had a quick coffee, because we found a really good hotel and wanted to spend a lot of time there.
A winery with a hotel and restaurant was waiting for us. After a small welcome aperitif and a few snacks, an extraordinarily nice receptionist showed us to our room and behold, an upgrade: we get a deluxe room.
Sensationally cozy here. An extremely high ceiling with old beams, a great bathroom with plenty of space and even a large bed with TWO BLANKETS (so far we have only had one to share). Definitely the best room so far. After a short break, we went to the aperitif, of course we tried the house's rosé sparkling wine by the fireplace. Very tasty, with olives and peanuts. But the best thing is: smoking is allowed in the fireplace bar. Later, we enjoyed our 3-course menu with a full view of the open
kitchen and a delicious 2011 white wine from the chateau. A completely successful day and evening.
