Police office in Nicaragua

نشرت: 19.05.2017

After realizing that the 3 strangers took everything from us that was important to us { Our 3 cameras, my phone and our credit cards } we made our way - with the still flat wheel - to the police station. Two nice guys helped us fix it while Sina was standing next to them {at that point we were paranoid that they might steal the car} and I went already inside the police station.

In total we spent 3 days at the police station in Masaya to get our report, the police badly wanting us to identify a woman they had suspected, them dragging us to court and us finally deciding that we cannot send a woman to jail when we are not 100% sure she was there.

By the way, in the end it turned out that the tire got deliberately destroyed as we were busy taking pictures at the viewpoint.

To be honest, our bigger fear was that she would find out that we were the ones responsible for her being in prison and who knows who would have been after us. We were plain scared and maybe a bit paranoid that we would have a Nicaraguan gang following us if we went all the way through with this. I would lie if I say that I still don't flinch every time I see a red car with dark windows.

But one good thing came out of this experience:

We can now tell our story backwards and forwards in Spanish because the police officers made us repeat it maybe 15 times. Also, we met this nice couple from Maine, who were victims of the same gang just three hours later, and they kindly invited us to their hostel at Laguna de Apoyo (Casa de las Aves).

The most important thing is probably that I will forever save my pictures right away, and after all, we were just grateful that we were just at the police station and not at the hospital.
