Tanah Rata - Camerun Highlands

Tanah Rata - Cameron Highlands

I set off again. My goal was to cool off, see mountains and nature. All of that awaited me up in the Cameron Highlands.

But first, the bus stopped in Ipoh, a small town where tin mining used to take place.

When I reached the local hostel, unfortunately, I had little time for a walk before dusk. Taking a photo here, a photo there, but I believe this is not a place for eternity.

After the sun quickly disappeared, I quickly found a hawker center and enjoyed a delicious soup. Just a quick explanation, you can find these hawker centers in every city in this country. The reason to visit them is simple - food!

There are many food stalls where you can simply order your choice of food (just point to the pictures for simplicity) and it will be promptly delivered to your table. Only there do you pay and enjoy your meal.

However, a sudden heavy rain prompted me to return to the hostel immediately.

The next morning, I continued on to Tanah Rata. First of all, the cool air up here is definitely inviting. The place itself is rather desolate. The main activity up here is clearly hiking in the surrounding jungle forests and mountains. I did the same the following day. Although there are tours available everywhere, I wasn't very interested in visiting a tea plantation (already seen) and a shopping show. Especially since the hiking trails are all numbered, described, and marked with signs. My first choice was supposed to be Trail 8, but I quickly dismissed it. Apparently, there are wild dogs roaming around there in the beginning area, which supposedly don't bite but barked at me like crazy. I could hear it from a distance. So, I was glad to have chosen Trail Number 7, leading up to Gunung Beremban at an altitude of 1812 meters. It was a constant uphill climb through beautiful, partially overgrown jungle.

Along the way, I rarely encountered people, only a few locals at the top who immediately invited me for a picnic. I then descended via Trails 3 and 6, with the goal of reaching a waterfall at the very bottom. However, it was not worth mentioning, unfortunately, as it was dirty and littered.

In the evening, I went to the night market, which luckily was taking place today. Here, I was able to fill my stomach again, just like in a fairy tale.
