And another week has passed...
I have slowly settled into my work in the delivery room and know what my tasks are. In the mornings, I usually clean up everything, as this is not really their strength. I admit women to the ward and support them during childbirth, and although there are still many things that bother me and leave me speechless, I draw a lot of positive things from my experiences.
The mothers here do an incredibly great job. They have a perfect sense of their bodies. They move as they please and handle the pain completely differently. And when the babies are born, they are incredibly grateful. And not only them, but also their family members who always wait for the women in front of the clinic and then I can call them in. One mother threw herself at my feet and kissed my hands. I was so touched that tears came to my eyes. And I have had these kind of moments again and again this week. This gives me the strength to keep going. I know that I can't change much here, but I can give every mother who I support a respectful, self-determined, and loving birth. And that reaffirms my actions!
I also had the first two women with HIV - I was a bit nervous and protected myself with gloves several times. On Friday, there was a strong boy with a birth weight of 4.4 kg and an extra finger on one hand. So I'm not getting bored here :)
