After a morning stop at what was probably a pretty popular bakery in Albert Town, we drove along an interesting coastal road to Queenstown. Fun fact: At the end of the road, before the intersection, it said 'Test your brakes now', but without braking you wouldn't have gotten down the mountain alive :D the last part was a full serpentine, but luckily E was asleep. The path was already nicely peppered with the first lupins - I'm looking forward to Lake Tekapo. In Queenstown we went shopping again at the last Pak n Save, we think, and then we checked in.
It's a little colder and windier here than Wanaka, but just as beautiful with the lake and mountains all around. We leisurely walked to the lakefront. There was a nice playground and a café with a view of Lake Wakatipu and the mountains. It's nice to leave the bus at home and walk, but our travel buggy was well worth it.
In Queenstown Garden we walked to the rose garden and I sniffed all the roses with E. After another swing stop we went back to the campground and Benny picked up our dinner. We made 'New Year's Eve dinner' with the delicious Riesling from Wanaka. I like the dining room best so far, with the beautiful beams and the piano it looks very homely. We'll probably sleep through New Year's Eve :D I think E is getting her canines, falling asleep is a very long and sometimes tearful process.
Happy New Year (which we missed, another first :D)
We started the new year with perfect pancakes :) then we started fresh and did the laundry and Benny got us the Fergburgers, which are probably famous for Queenstown. They were really tasty. We approached the New Year absolutely chilled out and didn't feel like doing much. Afternoon nap, then down to the Lakefront and had a typical meringue dish: Pavlova. So cute. Playground and then to our dinner reservation. There was delicious tuna and crab (for B of course).
A day full of good food - and good mood
