First of all, Don Curry wants to make it clear that he is neither identical nor related to the American comedian of the same name. Don Curry fundamentally does not care for humor, and the idea of earning money with it would be downright ridiculous for him, if that were not already a contradiction in itself. Life is too short to waste it with laughter!
No, Don Curry has other goals: traveling the world, experiencing other countries and cultures. And escaping the cold German winter...
He started at frosty -1°C this morning, parked his car in the parking garage of the future 'Gerhard-Schröder-Airport' in Hannover, and wanted to check in really early.
He consciously chose a renowned German airline already in September, and he was confident: since Christmas, neither the ground staff nor the cabin crew were on strike, even the pilots were prepared to work for once.
And yet the airplane did not take off. The flight was cancelled, no one at the check-in counter knew why.
But since Don Curry was so unusually early at the counter, he could be rebooked very soon. Emotionally charged lines were already forming behind him.
One hour after the non-flight, things continued. Although he had booked his flight tickets with the internet travel agency 'Kiss & Fly', obviously no one was ready for a goodbye kiss...
Actually, he was supposed to land in the capital of the loud desire for an upper limit; this message was blown into the ears of the people at regular intervals and with persistent stubbornness, like a soothing mantra. Don Curry considered this a targeted dumbing-down offensive, a sophisticated hacker attack by people who did not want to take the detour via computers and smartphones or had no clue about either. When would someone finally demand an upper limit for senseless demands for upper limits, Don Curry wondered.
But now he found himself on the island of separatists, who had deliberately chosen to be on the sidelines - thanks to the flimsy arguments of shady politicians. Everything was supposed to get better: the English food, the English weather, the English football; even the Queen was finally supposed to look younger again. After all, she had aged shockingly, even grown old, since the UK's accession to the EU in 1973.
Only the EU could be to blame for all of this, and Brexit would suddenly create an island paradise of global importance...
Don Curry decided to check that out for himself - after all, instead of a short stopover in the land of upper limits, he was now given over 8 hours in London Heathrow as a gift - and with all the amenities of a night flight in economy class...
Even leaving the plane in London brought first insights: he was greeted by an extremely fine-fibred rain under a distinguished greyish sky - truly a top-class English weather. For lunch, Don Curry chose the multicuisine restaurant 'Giraffe', ordered a Harissa chicken burger with sweet potato fries - and was surprised by the exquisite lack of seasoning; only a ginger-pineapple-elderflower smoothie brought some spiciness to his tongue. So, English food had certainly become more imaginative, but not tastier. Unfortunately, the Queen could not be persuaded to visit Heathrow at short notice, and Monday is football-free...
And yet Don Curry ventures a summary - the 8 hours of enforced idleness help: Better here probably means better British.
But at the same time, many different 'better' are emerging in Europe right now. Every country, every people, every group has its own 'better'.
Don Curry is not doing any better with that. But he has something to do now: He has to let himself be flown...
