Lago Llanquihue

This morning, after sleeping for almost 12 hours, I looked out the window and the weather god made up for the bad weather in Putre. Bright sunshine with a view of the lake. After a hearty breakfast with black bread and homemade apple crumble, the plan was to drive around Lago Llanquihue (the second largest lake in Chile) (about 160 km, roughly the size of Lake Constance).

I didn't have a chance to carry out this plan because the impressions and sights were too amazing... There simply wasn't enough time.

Driving clockwise around the lake, the first stop was at a deserted beach where there was really no one. A few meters further on, there was a larger gathering of tourists. I was going to drive past, but luckily I didn't and instead visited the "Saltos de Petrohue"... A magnificent spectacle of "waterfalls", despite the many people there.

If you didn't know that the treasure at Silver Lake was filmed in Europe, this would have been the perfect location. Truly magnificent, the pictures can only partially capture it. In addition to the waterfalls, there were also a few lonely paths where I walked to keep moving...

In my further attempt to circumnavigate the lake, I came to Petrohue, very close to "Lago todos dos Santos", the next lake that captivates you. And just when you think you've seen everything and turn around.... then you really get blown away because there's the mountain that captivates everything and everyone.

The Osomo Volcano, not particularly high at 2,660 m, but exactly what you imagine a volcano to be. Cone with a snow cap, the term "Chilean Fujiyama" hits the nail on the head. You can't escape the sight, especially since it can be seen from everywhere when the weather is clear...

You can top off the view by driving up the volcano to a height of 1,300 m and then hiking another 300 meters in altitude. A magnificent view of both Osomo itself and down into the valley. The ascent was definitely worth it.

The pictures only partially capture the impressions... Also, the cafe con leche and the empanada at the foot of the volcano... amazing.
