Christmas coffee at the nursing home

نشرت: 11.12.2021

Today is Saturday, December 11, 2021

Yesterday Martin had a short service at the nursing home (hogar de los ancianos), supported by a German support association. Therefore, there are also residents who can still speak German. Martin still held the service in Spanish. This was the first celebration in 2 years where relatives could come. And everyone brought a little something to eat. At the beginning of the corona epidemic, the home was completely closed for half a year. That means that even the staff were only allowed to leave the premises every 2 weeks. So to speak, a complete lockdown. You can only dream of this care ratio in Germany. From the home's perspective, it is one to one (resident - staff member). In addition, practically every resident has a private helper around the clock in the house, which of course has to be paid for. And that is only possible because labor is cheap here. - We were warmly welcomed there and had interesting conversations, especially with two gentlemen who came to Lima for business in 1958 and 1960. Christmas music was playing the whole time, including some with snow.

In the evening, we usually try to watch German television via the media library. Since the internet is not always stable, it does not always work or there are interruptions or a blurry picture.

Yesterday we planned something very nice for January. That will be our Christmas present. We will fly to the jungle (selva) of the Amazon for three days (Tarapoto), from where we will be taken to the Shimiyacu Amazon Lodge by boat. It will certainly be an interesting and exciting experience; we are very much looking forward to it. We still have to get vaccinated against yellow fever beforehand, we probably won't need protection against malaria. So we will experience something different than Lima.
