In contrast to Yaxchilán, in Palenque we encounter a component of the so-called Gringo Trail. So what the "package tourist" has as point x on the day trip list.
We are staying at a very nice campsite not far from the archaeological site and can walk there before the big wave.
The ruins themselves are, so to speak, highly polished. There are beautifully laid out gravel paths and practically every free meter next to the paths is paved with souvenir vendors (Yaxchilán - zero vendors, zero sellers). Despite the early hour, the first buses are already on site and have unloaded the cargo of outdoor sandals.
Before the ruins are no longer visible due to the crowds, we quickly go through the program, but in the end we are rather disappointed.
