Today we are spending the night at the port of Portopallo di Capo Passero. It's a lively fishing harbor where we have a lot to see. There is a restaurant that is open, so we will go out to eat tonight.
Looking at the menu, we are shocked by the prices! Starters for 25 euros, main courses starting from 30 euros. The ambiance doesn't match the prices.... We suspect it's a tourist scam and we order two servings of mixed grilled fish. We get a slice of swordfish, a squid, three prawns, and something lobster-like. For 60 euros? With bread?
Out of desperation, I order a portion of fries, which arrives after we finish the fish. They weren't good either. It wasn't the best experience....
When we pay the bill, we realize that there was only one portion and even the fries were only one portion.
What do we learn from this? Knowing more language and understanding the customs of the country definitely helps.... And once again, I promise myself to learn the language better for next time....
It's Friday, so it's the weekend. And Sicilians drive cars on the weekend. It feels like traffic is like on the main road until one in the morning. I can only hope that the fishermen don't start so early.
We continue driving to a parking area located in a nature reserve. We hope to be able to take beautiful walks and are excited about the highly acclaimed dream beach, Calamosche. The parking area is all about "pure nature camping". Electricity comes from cables that are drawn over the trees, and the sanitary facilities are very basic. Despite that, the night costs 15 euros, which the friendly parking attendant is keen to emphasize.
We also can't reach the dream beach. At least not with our dog. On closer inspection, it's alright that there are nature and bird sanctuaries that are so strictly monitored. I might try again tomorrow on my own. Although the weather doesn't look so good for tomorrow....
