Travel time 8 hours

Weather, sunny, about 24C

The day started unexpectedly with bright sunshine and just over 20C. Perfect hiking weather, at least for us. Well-rested and well-fed from a hearty breakfast, we started our hike through Skuleskogen National Park from the southern entrance at 12:30. The first few meters along the well-marked trail made it clear why we wouldn't see any moose or the like here. It was swarming with families with children. Accordingly, the noise level was high. It only now occurred to us that we were on a Sunday afternoon in one of the most popular local destinations. But we weren't discouraged by that. The park was definitely worth the trip in terms of landscape. Dense primeval forests alternated with rocky stones washed out by the sea 8000 years ago. The highlights were a viewing platform from which we could see part of the park and, on the other side, the fjord, and an impressive gorge that we naturally walked through. Even without moose, the park was very impressive, and the deeper we ventured into the forest, the fewer people we encountered. After about 4km, we took a longer food break on the viewing platform and enjoyed the great view with sausage and cheese in hand.

The further route led us through the gorge, past some small lakes, and finally along the coastal area back to our car. Since we had been on the road for quite a long time, the way was quite exhausting and quite far for the girls. But our capable girls don't give up, and in no time we were at the car. 11km in 8 hours with some uphill sections is a great achievement.

Conclusion: The park is excellent for families. The landscape is very diverse and extremely beautiful. Even if you don't encounter any animals, there is plenty to see and admire.
